Our Story

Austin Waterway Guardians was founded out of a deep respect for Central Texas waterways and the role they play in our community. As a fisherman and boat captain, I have experienced firsthand how time on the water and in the sun can be grounding, restorative, and vital to overall well being. Over time, I have seen that same benefit reflected in others who spend time fishing, boating, and working on the water.

I have also witnessed the growing damage caused by trash pollution and invasive species degrading native habitats. I created Austin Waterway Guardians to protect and restore these waterways through hands on cleanup, invasive species removal, and native habitat restoration. This work requires dedication, skill, and consistency.

That belief in the restorative power of time on the water also led to the creation of Fishing Church, a therapeutic fishing and boating program operated as a program of Austin Waterway Guardians. Fishing Church complements our core restoration work by fostering connection, mentorship, and stewardship through shared outdoor experiences.

Where possible, we also create meaningful training and work opportunities for veterans, at risk youth, and second chance individuals, building pathways to employment while restoring the environment. By focusing on practical solutions and measurable impact, Austin Waterway Guardians works to ensure our waterways remain healthy, accessible, and resilient for future generations.
